Middle School Magnet Consortium Open Houses
MCPS is hosting open houses for their MS Magnet Consortium.
MCPS offers innovative and challenging curricula at three magnet middle schools. Students are selected through a Choice process. Parents can learn more about the programs in information meetings and open houses.
Each session will provide an overview of the programs and Choice process for the three middle schools in the consortium—Argyle Magnet School for Digital Design and Development, A. Mario Loiederman Magnet School for Creative and Performing Arts and Parkland Magnet School for Aerospace Technology.
Upcoming Magnet Consortium Meetings:
- Wednesday, October 18 at 7 p.m. — Parkland MS
- Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. — A. Mario Loiederman MS
Spanish presentation available at all meetings.

Rockville HS Rampace 5K
The Rampage is excited to announce that Rampace 5K 2017 is scheduled for November 18, 2017, the Saturday before Thanksgiving, at Rockville High School. Last year, hundreds of members of the Rockville community participated in this popular event which benefits the school’s nationally award-winning student newspaper, The Rampage.
The Rampace 5K supports the journalism students of Rockville High School by contributing to the costs of producing the school’s print newspaper and online news site. We are a non-profit organization.
The race begins at the RHS stadium, continues up Baltimore Road, snakes around the Rockville Civic Center and finishes back at the stadium.
We try to provide a race experience that is unique and fun. We offer prizes to top finishers.
Event details and schedule:
5k starts at 8:00 a.m. at the Rockville High School football stadium, makes a right outside the stadium, a right at the end of the parking lot, goes up Baltimore Road, enters Rockville Civic Center and runners return to finish the race in the RHS stadium.
Tickets are on sale through the online school store and are $25 for adults and $15 for students now through Oct. 30, so please be sure to get them at this early-bird price. Beginning Oct. 31 tickets will be $30 for adults and $20 for students. Tickets are also available through Active.com. You can also pay by mailing or delivering check or cash to Mr. Confino in room 2033. Checks should be made out to Rockville HS with Rampace in the memo line.

Race day t-shirt is guaranteed for all pre-registrations made before November 5, 2017. T-shirts cannot be guaranteed after that date. Race-day registration accepted from 7:00 – 7:45 a.m. Shirts available for race-day registrants while supplies last.
T-shirts and bibs can be picked up during regular school hours in room 2033 onNovember 17, at the spaghetti dinner at RHS that evening, or the morning of the race.

National PTA’s Art Reflections Program
Seeking Art Submissions for Reflections Art Program’s Theme “Within Reach” – Deadline: Wednesday, November 15, 2017. No experience required. Open to ALL students! And FREE to Participate!
Students can choose the arts category they’re interested in, create an original piece of artwork based on the theme: “Within Reach” and get recognized and awarded as an artist in their community.
Create original art reflecting this theme in one, or more, of these categories: Dance Choreography, Film Production, Literature, Music Composition, Photography , Visual Arts or 3D Art. Each entry must:
- Fill out the student entry form.
- Be accompanied with a disc containing a copy of the entry on the disc. For example, a copy of an entered photograph should be on a disc and the disc should be included in the envelope along with the original photo attached to the manila envelope. Taking a picture of a painting and do the same, and scan/copy any literature, film, music, or dance choreography entry.
- Write the student’s name, school and title of entry on the disc. A disc is mandatory for each entry.
Students with disabilities may receive special accommodations by entering the special artist division. Here are the Official Rules for entering and for each of the categories and the National Awards and Prizes. Submissions are due Wednesday, November 15, 2017 – Drop off in the main office. Be sure to label your work with: Student Name, School, Title, Parent Name/Phone/E-mail. Please follow this facebook link for more information. September Lost and Found
Here are photos of the items in the SEPTEMBER lost and found. We will donate these items come December 1st, having kept them for 3 months. If you see your child’s clothing in these pictures, please come to the LIBRARY/MEDIA CENTER to pick up your belongings.
Remember to label all outer garments, hats, coats, sweaters with your child’s name.
