Fall Fling on Saturday October 29th

Maryvale’s most fun FUNdraiser, The 13th Annual Fall Fling Silent Auction and Carnival, is Saturday, Oct 29th from 1-5 at Maryvale, RAIN OR SHINE.

This is a huge silent auction for the parents and a huge carnival for the kids.

Little toy trinkets that are cluttering your house are needed for our Grab Bags. Please send to school in a bag labeled “Anne Simcox, Fall Fling.”

We still need help to make the Fall Fling a success. Please consider volunteering for a Fall Fling Subcommittee. The subcommittee sign up lists can be downloaded in English and Spanish. You can return forms to Anne Simcox and contact her at anne-marie_simcox@mcpsmd.org. Thank you for your help!

Author Christian Epanya to Visit Maryvale on October 13

Chrisitian Epanya will be visiting Maryvale on October 13th. There will be an assembly for all students and he will present in French for the French Immersion students, and in English for the English students. Some of his books are also available in English, including in ebook format.

He’s originally from Cameroun (as Mme Madiesse) but has been living and working in France for quite awhile. He started as an illustrator, and has now also authored his own books. We know him best from his “Taxi Brousse de Papa Diop.” We have more of his books in the library. The books encompass books for little kids and books for older elementary. They allow students to visit several different African cultures (some books take place in Mali, Kinshasa, etc.) which add to the variety and beauty of the experience.

He has been so kind as to respond to Mme Loomis’s classroom’s inquiries which is what inspired this assembly.

His website is www.christian-epanya.com/jm/. His art gallery at www.christian-epanya.com/jm/en/other-works/art-gallery will give you a flavor of his style.
